Carlos Condit: “I don’t know if I belong here anymore”

“The Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit is one of the biggest names in the UFC’s welterweight division. In his fourteen-year MMA career he has not only held the WEC welterweight title and UFC interim welterweight title, but he has fought big names such as Nick Diaz and Georges St-Pierre. He regularly headlines or co-headlines cards.

Unfortunately, it appears Condit is about ready to hang his gloves up. After his first-round submission loss to Demian Maia last night at UFC on Fox: Maia vs. Condit, the former WEC champ told reporters at the post-fight press conference that he doesn’t know if he belongs fighting at his level anymore.

“I don’t know if I have any business fighting at this level anymore. The pressure of being one of the top guys for almost a decade it’s been awesome. I’ve loved to been involved with the sport at the time that I have and have gotten to do what I love for a living for a long period of time, but I don’t know if I belong here anymore.”

Condit also confirmed that he had these feelings coming into his fight against Maia.

“It has definitely been in the back of my mind for a while now. It’s been a long career and I think there comes a point in every fighter’s career that they have to kind of question how long they’re going to continue to do that and I’ve been doing that for a little while.”
