Chael Sonnen Vs. Wanderlei Silva To Headline Bellator 180

The match that never was will be at Bellator 180.

Chael Sonnen will take on longtime, bitter rival Wanderlei Silva at Bellator 180, set to go down at the world-famous Madison Square Garden on June 24.

“We always said that when we come to New York, we’ll bring the biggest and the best fight card we’ve ever had in the history of this company,” Bellator President Scott Coker told the AP. “We’re putting it together, and our roster is robust enough that we feel like it’s time to get into the pay-per-view business, so here we go.”

Chael Sonnen is known for his heated rivalries. His penchant for taunting people relentlessly has driven even the calmest fighters – e.g., Anderson Silva – into blind rages.

The events leading up to his scheduled matches against Wanderlei Silva were no exception, and culminated into an on-air brawl on TUF 3 Brazil.

Chael and Wanderlei were expected to go at it three different times during their UFC days: at UFC 173, the TUF 3 Finale, and then at UFC 175.  Both fighters were eventually pulled from UFC 175 after failing their drug tests.

However, now that they are both part of the Bellator roster, it appears these two will once again have a chance go to at it.
