  1. Mitsuyo “Count Koma” Maeda → Carlos Gracie, Sr. → Helio Gracie → Rolls Gracie → Romero “Jacare” Cavalcanti → Fabio Gurgel → Marcelo Garcia
That’s a badass linage. Fabio also takes privates with Rickson.
Water is purest at the source. If you allow it to have too many additives it becomes something else. Water + dirt = mud. Water + corn + Yada Yada Yada =whiskey
Mitsuyo “Count Koma” Maeda → Carlos Gracie, Sr. → Helio Gracie → Relson → Phil Migliarese → Ryan Dichert→Rayce Neidzwiecki (me)

  2. Robert de Niro went to Laugardia HS of music and art to learn acting (the same as Jennifer Anniston, Nikki Minaj and others).Michael Jordan went to North Carolina University(the same as Vince Carter, James Worthy and others). Marcelo Garcia got his black belt from Alliance under the instruction of Fabio Gurgle and Jacaranda Calvacanti. I understand your point but those were bad examples.

  3. Lineage matters, but not in the way you describe it. The issue is one of legitimacy … these days you seem to hear about lots of fraudulent ‘black belts’ ripping off the naive with authentic techniques, and one of the easiest ways to pick them out is to ask for lineage. A fraud will either lie about coming from a legitimate black belt, which makes it easy to confirm, or will claim some vague ‘brazilian name’ which is just a huge red flag for being a fake.
