Bullies Took Away His Confidence, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Helped Him Get It Back

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu

Martial arts has a long history of helping those who’ve been the victim of bullying, and Ryron and Rener Gracie have kept this tradition alive.

This following details the tragic assault of a 13-year-old middle school student named “Austin,” who was blindsided and beaten on camera by a boy who was two years older than him. His mother was so horrified by the video that she couldn’t even watch, and she called the police.

His parents described that day as the day Austin “lost his innocence.” They were also stricken with the guilt of not preparing their child to deal with bullies.  They wanted their child to feel comfortable and confident in his environment, but had no idea of what to do.

That is where Rener and Ryron Gracie — the owners of Gracie University — came into the picture.  The two had seen the video after it was passed on to them by one of their students. They were soon contacted by Austin’s mother, and they were confident they could change his life in a week.

Did it change him?
