How To Keep Your Training Partners In Jiu-Jitsu

If you are new to combat sports like Jiu-Jitsu, you may feel like the proverbial fish out of water sometimes. This is to be expected so do not let it discourage you. If you have to serve as a partner to other people who have more experience than you do, you may find yourself out of your depth most of the time. In fact, there are times you will literally fall on your face. Your partners may even wonder if you have two left legs sometimes. It goes with the territory so do not develop a complex over these minor issues. The thing is that there are ways to be a good training partner in Jiu-jitsu so learn these methods and put them into practice.

Forget about your gender
If you are a female athlete and your partners are males, there are times things can get pretty embarrassing. Your male partner may touch a particularly delicate part of your anatomy during training. It is also possible that you will grab your partner in the wrong place once in a while. When this happens, do not be embarrassed and do not make a big deal out of it. Take it in your stride and get on with the job at hand. After all, Jiu-Jitsu is a contact sport so there is no point pretending that it is not.

Have a sense of humor
A great sense of humor helps you cope with most things in life. As a Jiu-Jitsu partner, you will do better if you learn to look at the funny side of things. Now, you do not have to become the training ground clown but it helps if you have a laid back and humorous attitude.

Think highly of other people
One thing that is bound to get you into trouble is to look down at your partners. You may be the best training partner in the gym. You may have better skills than other people do but there is no point in advertising any of these things. Be humble, be modest and down play your skills. This is the best way to be a good training partner. Better still, being humble means you will learn more and this is great for you.

One of the best qualities for people who want to get to the top in Jiu-Jitsu is composure. You are working in close quarters with people from different backgrounds. Now, some of these people may rub you the wrong way. Some of them may even try to upset you for the fun of it. Do not let them succeed. Keep your cool and you will overcome.

Final word
Jiu-Jitsu is not a breeze but it is not an impossibility either. Work hard, learn, keep your eyes on your objectives and you will succeed. These are some ways to be a good training partner in Jiu-Jitsu. Use the tips above and most people in the gym will want you as their partner.
