One of jiu-jitsuâs most dominant competitors in the last decade, João Miyao, has been working to expand his grappling expertise, having now earned his black belt in Luta Livre under Nicolas Renier and Jarbem Pacheco.
As an elite grappler already, Miyao went to two of the best names in Luta Livre to receive his training. Renier is a multi-time ADCC veteran with experience in professional MMA, earning a submission win in his 2019 LFA debut, while Pacheco has won Pan-Amâs in gi and no-gi. It appears that the ceremony took place at Glory Martial Arts Center in New York.
Miyao originally took private lessons with Bardem to learn like a ânormal studentâ, but as a 5-time IBJJF World Champion, Miyao isnât exactly a normal student, especially as a newcomer. It can be imagined that Miyao earned his black belt fairly quickly, in relative terms.
Renier announced Miyaoâs accomplishment in a post to instagram,
