Jorge Masvidal Drops Donald Cerrone And Wins By TKO

Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone (32-8)bragged that he did not watch any film of Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal (32-11) before their fight at UFC Fight Night 23.

Needless to say, he should have.

Cowboy and Gamebred fought in front of a mostly pro-Cowboy crowd in Denver, Colorado, where Cerrone grew up. The two started out fairly equally, with both fighters using Muay Thai style stances and peppering each other with punches and kicks. A couple of good exchanges kept the fans excited, but neither fighter seemed to take any significant damage.

That is, until the end of the first round. Cowboy Cerrone went in for a body kick, but Masvidal countered with a right, dropping Donald and going in for the kill.  Referee Herb Dean ran in to stop the match, but to some people’s confusion, it was because time ran out, and not because Cerrone lost.

While in his corner, coaches told a dazed Cerrone to make sure he moved his head.

When the second round began, Donald Cerrone was noticeably slower, no doubt still recovering from the first round’s near-TKO. Jorge Masvidal went in with the same game plan and utilized his superior boxing to chip away at his opponent.

It only took a minute for Cerrone to go down again, and though he was able to get back up, Masvidal relentlessly punched away at him, and Herb Dean had no choice but to stop the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone train has been derailed!

Winner by TKO (punches) at 1:00 in Round 2: Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal!!!
