You may be shocked to see that MMA legend Royce Gracie has been wearing a blue belt when training in Brazil Jiu-Jitsu. The Reason why Royce Gracie is wearing blue belt is out of respect for both his father and the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Gracie, perhaps one of the most important people in mixed martial arts history, stated that when he first started training many decades ago, even the best practitioner would not get above a blue belt. Over time and feeling pressured by different federations, Royce’s father would start awarding other color belts out as well, whether they were earned the proper way or not. Royce, as he prepares to wage war with Ken Shamrock once more at Bellator 149, feels that keeping himself in a blue belt will help keep him hungry as he trains and prepares for what very well may be the final fight of his career.
