Renzo Gracie’s Erik Owings Offers Students A BJJ Black Belt In Three Years . . . For $150,000

Getting a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu is neither quick nor easy.  If you’re like most practitioners, it will take roughly eight years before you can experience the joy of having the coveted faixa preta wrapped around your waist. And if your coach is particularly strict – say, like Relson Gracie – you’ll be waiting another two to seven years before seeing that belt.

But what if you could get a black belt in less than half the time of your average student? What if you could dedicate just three years to Brazil’s soft art and come out with all the skills any other black belt would have after eight years or more?

Well, the good news is, you can.

The bad news is you’ll need a friend and $150,000.

This is all thanks to Renzo Gracie black belt Erik Owings, who is offering students a three-year route to a non-IBJJF-accredited black belt.

Three years, however, is only the minimum amount of time it would take, and Owings is only accepting four people per three-year term.

Furthermore, the program is not a guarantee, and Owings admits it will be offensive to “some who have put in the years.”

Nonetheless, the Renzo Gracie black belt – who has trained MMA great Georges St-Pierre –  insists that his program is “serious” and hopes to have four people doing the program before the year ends.

You can read Professor Erik Owings’ Facebook posts about his new program below.

I used to joke that I would give a blackbelt to anybody for $100,000. Even let them choke me out on youtube. However I…

  1. Man I can do that also make a guy a Black belt in 3 years easy but they have to give me 6 hours a day to train them. 3 hours in the morning 3 hours in the evening. I have been training my GF this way and she can beat any none competitor Black belt and has more knowledge then most she is officially from a IBJJF time stand point a blue belt, But we train together everyday 4 to 6 hours drilling rolling working theory and she is a natural athlete. Anyone who wants to be a black belt level Jiu-jitsu practitioner and is willing to pay for the time that the instructor has to spend with that person to make it happen of course they can do it in fact i will offer right here in this Email to make a highly competitive black belt out of anyone if they give me three years of their time and 100’000 dollars of their money for my time no limit on number of people. No problem the only stipulation is that they would have to come to me for training not the other way around.
