The Jiu-Jitsu Times Is Hiring Assistant Editors

Looking for some spare cash? Well, good news! The Jiu-Jitsu Times is hiring assistant editors.

As an assistant editor for our website, you will be responsible for:

  • Creating at least one short article per day (at least 50 words if accompanied by video or 300 words if just text)
  • Assisting our current team of editors (currently Chris Zahar and Averi Clements) with editing content for punctuation and grammar mistakes.
  • Making sure writers follow our stylistic guidelines
  • Helping to cover live jiu-jitsu and mixed martial arts events online

We are looking for people who:

  • Love to read and write
  • Have an excellent command of the English language (including the ability to spot and fix spelling and grammar mistakes as well as help sentences flow better)
  • Are passionate about jiu-jitsu and mixed martial arts
  • Have regular, fast internet access
  • Can work alone, but get along well with others
  • Have a Paypal account
  • Have a smartphone

Preference will be given to people who live in a West Coast US time zone and have previous editing experience. A basic understanding of WordPress, HTML, and SEO is also helpful. However, these are only preferences. Anyone and everyone who is interested should apply.

As this is a small website, we can only afford to pay a flat rate of $300 per month. However, most days you will only be expected to work an hour or two per day, and this is an excellent way to build your resume for a future writing career.  Exceptions are during live BJJ and MMA events, which can last up to six hours. However, there are usually only a few of these events per month.

If you are interested, please send a cover letter and resume attached in a Word format to  The title of your email should be “Interested in assistant editing position.” Your cover letter should be between 100 and 200 words and should talk about your BJJ training, writing experience, and anything else you think is relevant. If you don’t have any of those, tell us why you want to be part of our team. Grammar and spelling obviously matter.

We are hoping to hire someone before April 1.

If you have any questions about the position, please send them to the email address above.
