What Are The Unspoken “Rules” Of Jiu-Jitsu?


Generally, when you take your first jiu-jitsu class, you’ll get briefed on the rules of the academy: no shoes on the mats, be respectful, maintain good hygiene, and of course, respect the tap. But not all of the “rules” of BJJ are so explicitly stated, and much of the etiquette in the sport is never written out on academy rule signs or waivers.
