It is truly odd to think that a bout between a former UFC Welterweight and Lightweight Champion against a former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion would not be happening in the UFC. However, that is exactly what happened in 2005 during a Hero’s MMA event when B.J.Penn vs. Lyoto Machida took place. The bout was an epic encounter that showed just why Penn is a former two division champion and also why Machida would become a future champion. In this particular encounter, it was Machida walking away with a unanimous decision win, but those in attendance know that they saw two of the best ever step into the ring that night.
