Amanda Nunes Out Of UFC 213 Main Event

UFC 213 will unfortunately proceed without its main ticket, as the reigning UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes was forced to pull out of her title defense match against Valentina Shevchenko.

UFC president Dana White confirmed the news via Instagram on Saturday afternoon, but it remains unclear as to why Nunes has withdrawn.

BREAKING: Due to illness, Amanda Nunes Leoa has pulled out of the #UFC213 main event. Yoel Romero UFC vs. Robert Whittaker MMA is now the new main event.

Because of the surprise announcement, the interim middleweight title bout between Yoel Romero and Robert Whittaker will take center stage as UFC 213’s main event. The competition, taking place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, will now proceed with eleven fights.

History doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes. Last July, at UFC 200, Nunes (14-4) won the bantamweight title by defeating then-champion Miesha Tate in a match that was pushed to the fore after Jon Jones was pulled from the main event following a positive pre-fight drug test.

Nunes and Shevchenko met before at UFC 196 back in March 2016. Nunes came out the victor by unanimous decision.
