Miesha Tate Chokes Holly Holm To Sleep To Win The Title

UFC 196 Results: Miesha Tate submits Holm in round five of the much anticipated matchup. Both women are at the peak of their careers and are looking to add to their UFC legacy. Fresh off a victory against Ronda Rousey, Holm was looking to defend her title against a hungry Miesha Tate. Holm is one of the most cerebral and technical fighters today and she showed that throughout the fight. She managed to maintain ring control and keep Tate at bay for almost the entire fight.

Tate did manage to take down Holm in the second round, which exposed the champion’s vulnerability to Tate’s ground skills. Still, Holm managed to recover and keep Miesha Tate from taking the fight to the ground, that is until midway through the last round when a desperate Tate took advantage of an opening and latched on to Holm.

Holm struggled to break free, but Tate’s submission hold was just too tight. In the end, a defiant Holly Holm refused to tap out, losing consciousness and forcing referee John McCarthy to step in and declare Miesha Tate as the new UFC women’s bantamweight champion. Holly Holm suffered her first defeat in her MMA career while this is Tate’s fifth win in a row.
