The Original Jiu Jitsu In The Park Is Back!

After holding previous events in Los Angeles, the latest installment of Jiu Jitsu in the Park is heading down to San Diego on Sunday, May 22. This event will be taking place at the Naval Training Center/Liberty Station Park and will be hosted in association with the Keep A Breast Foundation, a breast cancer education and awareness organization.

Jiu Jitsu in the Park is the largest outdoor gathering of grapplers in Southern California, with nearly 400 people expected at NTC Park. More than just an open mat, there are yoga classes and exhibition matches for kids and adults, a raffle with contributions from companies like Hayabusa and Gawakoto, and stands set up for BJJ lifestyle companies. There will even be an acai bowl-eating contest with acai provided by Super Bowls Performance Foods.

The idea for Jiu Jitsu in the Park was to bring grapplers together regardless of politics, affiliations, and gi (or nogi) preference. It started as a small gathering with patchwork mats and has since expanded in popularity.

The last event, back in July, drew more than 300 people to Griffith Park in LA (here is a highlight clip from that event:

That event raised more than $400 for Karma Rescue, a pet rescue organization based in West LA.

This Jiu Jitsu in the Park event in San Diego will be attempting to raise money and awareness for the Keep A Breast Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating youth about breast cancer prevention and care. All proceeds from the collaborative t-shirt sales will go to Keep A Breast.

Jiu Jitsu in the Park is a grassroots organization hoping to grow throughout Southern California and possibly beyond. This will be the first of multiple events in 2016.

 See you at the park!”
