The Sparring Partner Of Jose Aldo Explains How He Injured The UFC champion

Jose Aldo’s next exciting title defense against Conor McGregor was in jeopardy after the events where the UFC featherweight got terribly injured during one of his sparring sessions at Nova Uniao. His teammate was reported to be devastated. Alcides Nunes, who was a 5 to 0 lightweight who worked through Nova Uniao, was in the middle of training with one of the biggest UFC stars in Rio de Janeiro. During the fight, he accidentally ended up breaking Aldo’s ribs after his opponent could not block the spinning back kick. Aldo vs. McGregor, which was scheduled to headline for UFC 189 in Las Vegas on the 11th of July is now in jeopardy of being a no show. The kick that he threw ended up going for the ribs after it was aimed poorly after a slip, and now the UFC champion needs to recover at the hospital.

Alcides Nunes opens up to MMA Fighting:

“I threw a kick but slipped with all the sweat on the mat, and ended up hitting his rib,I was mimicking McGregor’s unorthodox style, things he does in the fight. I’m also left-handed, my style is similar to his, so that’s why they asked me to be part of his camp, but I ended up slipping and causing this injury.”

“I’m still sad about all this,” he said. “As a fan and an athlete, I know this is devastating. I’m really sad. Aldo was in shape and prepared for this fight.”
