Dana White announced the new main event for UFC 196 will be Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz in a welterweight bout. The decision to make the fight at welterweight was due to Diaz having difficulty cutting down to 155 lbs on short notice. Other fighters considered for the fight against McGregor were Donald Cerrone and Urijah Faber. Diaz a fan favorite, went on a profanity laced tirade aimed at McGregor after his December victory over Michael Johnson. UFC 196 will take place on Saturday, March 5th from the the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
