Bullied 7th Grader Charlee Funes Takes First Jiu-Jitsu Class

In a wholesome turnaround from being a victim of an egregious act of bullying, Jiu-Jitsu Times is keeping track of Charlee Funes’ budding jiu-jitsu journey. As mentioned the other day, she connected with Rener Gracie on Zoom and accepted his scholarship to train at an affiliate school of his close to her.

The other day, she had a chance to do her intro class with Professor Jeff Kim of Fusion MMA, a Gracie University Certified Training Center in Elgin, Illinois. Based on the video, it appears that she’s fallen into a good niche. She performs a back take, trap and roll, and Americana in her very first class, and appears to be all smiles throughout. She reportedly thoroughly enjoyed her first jiu-jitsu experience, and we are hopeful she continues on in her journey.
