Daniel Cormier’s First Statement After On UFC 214 Title Loss, Jon Jones’ Gym Responds

Daniel “DC”Cormier and reigning UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon “Bones” Jones had one of the ugliest rivalries in MMA history. The two got physically violent off stage and threw some of the nastiest insults at each other.

But as is the case with great fighters, when the war was over, they were willing to make up. After his win at UFC 214, Jones went over to DC, who was crying on one of his trainer’s shoulders, and kissed him on the back of the head.

Cormier, who was not only shaken by his loss but dealing with the head trauma that comes with a knockout, could barely get through his interview with UFC color commentator Joe Rogan.

Rogan later apologized for the interview.

However, DC broke his silence yesterday via social media. He showed the world that he too was willing to end his rivalry with Jones.

First off, thank you all for the kind words. I have felt the support. Congratulations to Jon Jones and his team. They did a phenomenal job and got the victory. Also, to Big John McCarthy, I would like to apologize for acting up with you. I am thankful for the time you gave me to try and defend myself and stay in the fight. You are the best in the business for a reason. I also wanna thank my team and my coaches. I love you all from the bottom of my heart. Your time and energy is greatly appreciated. You guys did a wonderful job, I was ready. It's a fist fight and things happen. Dana White and the @ufc, thank you for being the premiere organization in all of MMA. Again, congrats to Team Jones and JacksonWink. Love you all. I'll see you soon. DC 📷@layziethesavage

Shortly after, Jon Jones’ gym, Jackson Wink, responded to Cormier, calling him a “true warrior” and “powerhouse” in MMA.

This, everyone, is what truly makes combat sports great! Even after the nastiest rivalries — even after two fighters get in a fist fight on stage and make fun of each other’s drug use and supposed solicitation of prostitutes — two fighters can leave it all behind, congratulate each other, and literally kiss and make up.

Bravo to both Jon “Bones” Jones and Daniel Cormier for this spectacular display of sportsmanship!
