FDA Says Walnuts Are Illegal Drugs

You appreciate food products that are healthy, delicious, and enjoyed by everyone in your family. If you are like most people, your approach is that all-natural, organic products are the best. The Food and Drug Administration does not necessarily agree. The FDA says walnuts are illegal drugs.

Walnut drugs

The FDA apparently believes companies should not claim their products provide health benefits, even when the claims have been proven to be true. In a letter to Diamond Foods, one of the most well-known suppliers of walnuts, the FDA stated that marketing walnuts with claims of health benefits places walnuts in the same category as drugs like ketamine, LSD, and datura.

Diamond Foods has never said their walnuts can cure or treat diseases. They have merely stated the product may reduce the risk of numerous health conditions. The Omega-3 fatty acids found in natural walnuts can reduce the risk of heart disease and some forms of cancer.

No one really needs walnuts to carry warning labels and instructions on how to properly use them. As long as you are not allergic or sensitive to walnuts, they are completely safe. Organic walnuts are one of the healthiest snacks available for individuals of all ages.

The FDA’s lack of common sense when it comes to an all-natural food is an interesting contrast to the agency’s track record. There have been plenty of products approved for use that were later found to be harmful. Artificial sweeteners are only one example of foods that were on the market for many years after being approved by the Food and Drug Administration. People consumed quantities of these products before learning they had potential health hazards.

The Food and Drug Administration has an entirely different approach to the walnuts sold by Diamond Foods. While there are certainly no health hazards associated with organic walnuts, it is the claim of health benefits that is being debated.

The fact that walnuts are good for you is truth in advertising. It may lead us to wonder if Diamond Foods knows more about health than the FDA.

Elderly people, adults of all ages, and even little children love Diamond walnuts. As a great addition to a balanced diet, individuals who choose to snack on walnuts may indeed be healthier. However, as the FDA says walnuts are illegal drugs, do not be surprised if they become harder to obtain. With this lack of logic, it could be easier to obtain real drugs than this delicious, natural food.
