Master Carlos Machado Shows How To Get The Submission From Side Control Every Time

Master Carlos Machado — red and black coral belt and eldest member of the world-famous Machado family — has a simple way to make sure you get the submission from side control.

The key is to separate the arms. Most experienced Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners will hold their elbows in tight when they are on the bottom of side control. As the arms are strongest when they are close to the body, it can be hard for practitioners playing offense to free up one of their opponent’s arms.

In this video, Master Carlos shows the BJJ world a simple way to break the arms apart without using strength.
