Bernardo Faria gets all the best guests on his YouTube, but he doesn’t often get as palpably excited as he is in the tutorial with fellow BJJ legend and Brazilian landshark Lucas Leite. Here, Leite schools Faria and practitioners on his favorite surprise sweep from half guard.
The sweep itself has a fakeout built in. You’re going to pretend you’re going into deep half guard, break your opponent’s posture from half, then switch back into full guard and use your legs to chinch up and pressure across their trapped knee. It requires a little coordination, but Leite demonstrates the exact mechanics clearly. After a few drills it becomes easy…and effective.
