Pulling guard is often ridiculed in the BJJ community — especially among practitioners with a strong wrestling or judo background. People often think of it as an easy way to get an opponent to the ground without having to learn all of those pesky throws and takedowns.
Pulling guard successfully, though, is not easy. When guard pulls go wrong, they can result in you landing in an inferior position or your opponent getting takedown points.
